About Me

Hello, and welcome.

My name is Nilgün Güngör, and I created this website to document my journey as a graduate student, Family Specialist, and lifelong learner. Rather than serving as a traditional portfolio, I envision this space as a living archive—a place to collect ideas, reflect on experiences, and explore the questions that continue to shape my understanding of health and well-being.

My academic journey began at Brooklyn College, where I earned dual Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Exercise Science, along with minors in Health Sciences and Classics. Throughout my education and professional experiences, I became increasingly interested in the many factors that influence health beyond the walls of a clinic. Working in physical therapy, primary care, and public hospital settings introduced me to the complexities of patient care and reinforced the importance of viewing health through biological, psychological, social, and environmental perspectives.

During my final year of undergrad at Brooklyn College, I was presented with an unexpected opportunity to pursue a Master’s degree in Community Health. Although it wasn’t a path I had originally planned, accepting that opportunity became one of the most transformative decisions of my academic journey. It introduced me to community health as a discipline and shifted the way I think about helping others—not only through individual care, but by understanding the broader social, environmental, and systemic factors that shape health.

Today, I am pursuing a Master’s degree in Community Health while beginning my career as a Family Specialist in Montana. Although I am still new to the role and continue to learn each day, this transition has strengthened my interest in understanding how families, communities, and broader social systems influence health across the lifespan. It has also reminded me that meaningful change is rarely achieved by one profession alone. Instead, it emerges through collaboration, evidence-informed practice, and an appreciation for the unique strengths and challenges of every individual and family.

This website exists because I believe learning should be visible. Here, I hope to document the evolution of my thinking as I engage with research, reflect on my experiences, and develop my graduate thesis. My interests will undoubtedly evolve over time, and I welcome that uncertainty. Curiosity, after all, is at the heart of both research and professional growth.

Whether you are a fellow student, researcher, healthcare professional, or simply someone interested in community health, I hope this space offers thoughtful discussion, meaningful reflection, and perhaps a new way of looking at the complex systems that shape health.

Thank you for being here. This is only the beginning.
